Re: weirdest things
I had to buy 124 condoms for yr 9 - to be blown up to demonstrate how safe they are (the chemist asked if I was going to be busy overnight), and every year I buy 4 tubes of KY jelly and 6 packets of glow sticks - chemiluminescence.

Have you tried turning the fans on in the room? They only need to be just turning. I found that all the heat was sitting up against the ceiling while I was cold down below.

I came in this morning and the computer wouldn't work. Our TSO came down and took it away. It seems the hard drive has died. It was an old computer with Windows XP. I've been given an updated machine now with Windows 7. My laser Jet printer will now not connect with the new computer (tooooo old). So...

Hi Karend
At the top of the screen near the manual is an e-learning tutorial. It's not bad and you can learn if you have the time to watch. It more or less takes you through the manual.

Re: Non contact infra red Thermometers
We use them occasionally. When they are doing changes in heat using plastic bottles, student research projects (which surfaces get hotter quicker)and Chemistry uses them for temperature changes in chemical reactions instead of thermometers sometimes. They get used about 6-8 times a year.

Agar Plates
I've been making nutrient agar plates for years with very good growth of bacteria of all sorts using agar that was in my store. However, I purchased new nutrient agar 6 months ago and now the vast majority of the plates hardly grow anything. :cry2: My technique hasn't changed. Is anyone else having ...

The 10 rats were OK because they were packed close together in very strong plastic on the middle shelf of the freezer. However, the 60 squid, hearts, kidneys and pluck were sitting on the bottom of the freezer and defrosted - the water that had refrozen was not a good colour. All these things have b...

We use 1M sodium hydroxide and 0.1M copper sulfate dropper bottles and get a good result. A higher molarity of the sodium hydroxide is recommended but then we can't use it with years 7-10.
