Re: dishwasher rack

I learnt a good trick from some colleagues in Queensland schools.
Bundle 5 or 6 test tubes together with a rubber band and only use one dishwasher spike to hold all of them. It works a treat!! :clap3:

Re: Chemtrix Colorimeter

Thanks, Richard. It's good to be back (most of the time). I made sure the tube is totally clean and no blemishes but didn't think to check the light path. There is no mudwasp in there  and you can definitely see the light source but even with nothing in there I can't get 100%. I'll give the s...

Chemtrix Colorimeter

Hi to the Brains Trust. Yes I'm back at my old school but that's a story for another day. Can anyone help me with this colorimeter please? I hope I have attached the photo properly. I have followed the instructions a couple of times using fresh solutions each time but I cannot get it to read 100% tr...

Moving on

So after about 26 years in this position, I am heading to Queensland to work and be closer to family :clap3:   I have part time work and hoping to pick up some casual as well. [-o< :beg: It's the strangest feeling, as I have been here for so long I feel like part of the furniture. Than...

I am planning a move to the Toowoomba area and will be looking for school lab work there, so if anyone has any connections it would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Cleaning Electrodes

:giggle: Only because I had a clean out not long ago and bought some shiny new ones!
I have the old grungy, bent and dodgy ones stored away for various metal experiments. They come in handy sometimes.

Re: How can I clean volumetric flasks?

I had a flask with something in it that I was not going to let beat me. I ended up putting some smallish gravel in it, swirled it around a bit and it came off YAY!!! That was after soaking it to loosen it up a bit.

Re: Potassium Permanganate

I used to put it in one of those tubes that you filter fish tank water through and pump the water through it. It would go green and slimy and I would throw it out. No question of reusing it.

Re: Slides - Fading

Same here. We have some really old ones. I have thrown out the worst of the yellow ones and the broken or unidentifiable ones. I wouldn't be concerned about them deteriorating in 12 months or even 5 or 10 years. Store them safely and they'll be fine for many years.

Re: Potassium Permanganate

I used to use it to filter fish tank water years ago when I had smelly fish tanks and yabby tanks in the labs. Thank goodness we don't have them any more!!

Yes the labbies in Tamworth really are amazing, and a great bunch to have on your side. You can't go wrong following their advice.
