Re: Chemical not in the CSIS
S'pose so. I have never seen one, but I have heard a couple of the teachers mention RA occassionally. Cause we are govt school, and they stay within the guidelines of CSIS they do not have to do one - for chemicals that is. As for other hazards I'm not sure what they have to fill out. I know there i...

Re: Electronic Balances
Speaking of balances...does anyone use the mechanical 4-beam or 3-beam balances any more? I have been packing these up to move and wondering if they should go into the permanent storage..ie the bin. No one seems to bother any more...would rather electronic balance. Can't say I blame them. I think th...

Re: Chemical not in the CSIS
Well...they have never bothered to do the CSIS training here..but I did what I could do and relabelled all chemicals etc. I didn't realise we had to check that every chemical had changed its original classification. I just used the CSIS appendix D to classify all chemicals (some time ago) and chemwa...

Re: Teacher declarations
Well Ian, at least the mess was in the oil. I have been reconstituting therms for years, but I just put em on a hot plate, which has been turned on full. I have been known to walk away, impatient for it to heat up. Only to come back when I've heard a funny popping noise, and they have exploded up th...

Re: Duties
NSW govt school. I have had my first aid cert but currently out of date. In our role, we do not perform first aid unless we get paid for it, which is a whole 9.67 a fortnight loading. Having said that I have dispensed many a bandaid in my time. Basically all care and no responsibility. But first aid...

You could try wearing a name badge, to emphasise your point. You could even point to it occassionally with a smile at the transgressor, to get your point accross.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Re: Who does this?
In the past, each teacher had their own lab (mostly), so they were responsible to write the problem in the maitenance guys book. If they told me there was a problem, I would tell them to write it in themselves explaining to new teachers where to find the book etc. In that way they were responsible f...

I couldn't agree with you more Franco.
And yes she is (e) all of the above!
It is difficult not to take her by the ears and shake her. Never listens or compromises. And to boot DADS.
Thanks for your comments everyone.![Thumbsup ](./images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Can anyone be forced to work in Science?
I guess this is a question for NSW Labbies as I am talking about a DET state high school. I am off for at least four days next week and maybe a further 5 days depending on recovery the following week. I have told my dozy Head Teacher that I do not need to be replaced, as we are in the middle of a re...

I had the same problem. I had to take the file home on a flash drive and send it via yahoo. I must say my computer took a long time to upload the files.

Re: Animal blood - no no?
In NSW there is a animals in schools policy. Strict guidelines on keeping them. So you would need to check you state's policy, or rather you teacher needs to check with head teacher. Slides should be OK as they are already prepared. At one time I got cow blood from the abattoir when it was here. But...

Re: identifying rocks
I have just tried to send it by direct email but will not send, saying the file is too big. The one I have is no doubt the same as Noona's. Maybe she will have more luck. If you don't get it from her, let me know and I will try from home. Interesting really, because I received it as an email from Li...

Re: identifying rocks
I used google images and a powerpoint file that Liz from Tamworth gave me, when I did a lot of rocks late last year. I have tried to attach the file but won't work, maybe its too big - don't know. So if you could give me your email address I could try that way. Cheers

Would it fit into a wide mouth Reagent bottle with a lid? If not any jar with a lid and label accordingly.
