Re: test tube drying racks
Haines and Serrata both have them. Haines website http://www.chemtalk.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=451 and look up rack - test tube in the search box. Serrata catalogue page 5 of 45 in the general laboratory - apparatus section. The Serrata ones are cheaper but I think the Haines ones are bigger....

We are about to do this one too. In the book the teacher uses, next to the iodine and phosphorous it says "DO NOT TEST".

Re: Safety Glasses
Thanks for those ideas. I don't need to get pouches because we just have them in a glasses shelf thing on the side of the cupboard. Something to keep in mind though if we go for individual glasses in the future.

Safety Glasses
Hello! I'm just ordering some safety glasses for the kids. I notice some in the catalogues have a safety standard number and some don't. Should I only go for the ones with the number? Can anyone recommend a good type? We have about 3 different types currently in the labs but I don't know what they a...

Re: Data Loggers & Probes
We looked into the Vernier LabQuest which looked fantastic. I don't remember how many probes can be plugged in at one time though. It can be used without a computer and taken out into the field. We ended up going with the Pasco GLX Xplorer because our old one was a Pasco and we didn't need to get ne...

Dishwashers
Hi Everyone! I know there was a lot of discussion about dishwashers last year (I've just read through the posts), and I was wondering how test tubes go... Do they generally come out clean? One of the science teachers here has put a new kitchen in their house, complete with new dishwasher, and has ki...

Re: SASS Conference St Marys
Hi All! Just want to say how much I got out of the conference. It is only day 3 for the kids, and already I have made agar with confidence (unlike last year when I made it hoping it would work because I didn't really know what I was doing!!) and the kids have looked at euglena under the microscope. ...

chemical waste
Hi All, For those of you who know so much more than me, I'm wondering if anyone has a list of which substances go in what waste containers. I usually ask the teachers where to put it when they bring whatever can't go down the sink to me. For example, how do I know what is 'halogenated inorganic wast...

Re: Welcome Back to 2008!
I started back last Monday and our kids started today. I got so much done that week without kids! Then the public holiday to recover from the shock of returning to work after 7 weeks holiday... Also had the country music festival last week so I had a great time going to concerts, the cavalcade and d...

Re: How Many Days Till Christmas?
Today is my last day too, although I'll probably get on Chemtalk to see what's going on. I might even have time to read through some of the interesting threads! I'll be heading to Tuncurry the weekend before Christmas for about a week to visit my parents and grandparents. My sister and her husband a...

Re: Chemwatch Issues
Did anyone ever come up with a solution to the printing problem with the labels on Chemwatch? Is there a way to remove the box that allows you to alter the positions and font sizes?

Eriochrome Black T
Hi All,
I need to make up a solution of Eriochrome Black T. I have the powder but don't know how much to mix with water to make the indicator. Anyone know?

Re: Silform
That wasn't the impression I got from others at the conference. I think I'll just stick to wherever we get them from now. I already get enough catalogues and if it isn't really worth the effort I think I'll just stay off their mailing list. Thanks anyway!

Silform
Hi All!
Some people at St Mary's were talking about a company called Silform. I had a quick look on the internet and didn't find a website. Does anyone have a phone number or email address for them so I can ask for a catalogue?
Thanks,
Rosalie

Re: Enzyme Experiments.
We just used fresh milk from the staffroom fridge! Do a search for enzyme prac or something similar because there was a lot of discussion about these pracs a few weeks ago and you might get some more useful information.

Our classes sometimes go to the food tech room for these types of pracs.
