That is the question, right?
I am talking about hook-up wires with either banana plugs or alligator clips. Is it worth spending the time to solder them?

Re: Use of Borax in schools
It is allowed in NSW public schools 7-12 under CSIS but in my experience, not many schools allow it.

Re: risk assessments for labbies
I sign the lab tech part and leave it open, or if the risk is high, get the HT to sign their part. No one double-checks what we normally sign anyway. It is normal to have just us check that part anyway.

We had a garbage truck have to dump it's load behind our school after the rubbish caught fire, they believe from a lithium battery. Thankfully we were downwind.

Fume hood on windy days
I am soldering some boards in the fume hood, and significant wind is coming through from outside (where it is very windy). The fumes are blowing back into the room rather than being sucked up! I have certainly experienced this before, but it was the first time I questioned whether the hood was helpi...

Re: Best pulleys
They look OK . All metal .and have a brass axial . my only concern is the strength of the sides and how well the hooks are attached . We're going to order 20 singles and 10 doubles and see what they are like . I bought 10 sets. They won't be used until next year but I'll update once I have them in ...

Re: Lighting Bunsens
We recently transitioned to these lighters from BOC and will never go back to matches. No more security concerns, no more matches down drains, no more refilling after every lesson. I only give out two per class, and the teachers collect them as soon as possible to prevent the flint being ground down...

Re: Best pulleys
At my old school , we had solid metal ones .They had proper pointed pivots and adjustable bearing cups . ......and they were over 60 years old . I want all metal ones also. Our kids are rough on equipment, and plastic would only last a year or two! After a fair bit of searching, I found some metal ...

Best pulleys
What pulleys do you need for junior classes? I would love some recommendations for which pulleys last the test of time. We are only a junior school, but students can be quite hard on the equipment. I would prefer something that is metal, but I am not sure if we need ones with hooks, clamps, rods, do...

I can't post links or pictures, but google "gas collection beehive gas collection" and look at the images. Thats how I have always seen gas collection done in schools.

Re: Agar plates - how old is too old?
I believe that if they haven't grown anything, haven't dried out or gotten too wet, then they are fine for up to 12 months.
They should be fine.
They should be fine.
