Re: how do you identify classroom glassware
oh, ok. Ours are a white plastic and lots of the rounded base bits are melted (from before I started here). Maybe I should look into replacing with better quality plastic ones!

Re: how do you identify classroom glassware
I'm so lucky my prep. room is central to the labs, all glassware stays with me and goes out on the trolleys as requested for each prac., teachers get them to rinse free of chemicals before returning. If it's to be used for another class of it goes, after checking and topping up if need be. Through ...

Re: how do you identify classroom glassware
At my previous school, glassware was stored in a cupboard in the room (a tall one). Test tubes were in a tote tray and beakers were arranged in sizes at waist to chest height for the commonly used ones and less used were higher up. The measuring cylinders were down on the lower shelves (so kids had ...

This is a really old thread but yesterday I got my winchester of Conc HCl out and it had yellow "condensation" all over the outside of the bottle. Is this the sweating being referred to here? What can I do about it? Is it dangerous? I always make sure I wear gloves even when just handling ...

Re: Rubber Stoppers
Our flasks are all different sizes and even the ones that are the same aren't actually the same so looking at the stoppers as well, you'd think "this size fits this flask" but no, they don't all fit... so any time they are used I have to match up whatever glassware is needed with stoppers ...

Re: Rubber Stoppers
For those of you who use the westlab uni stoppers, what size do you find the most useful? I am putting my wishlist together and we are in desperate need of stoppers so I don't spend hours trawling through trying to match stoppers to flasks... Are the small ones good for test tubes and medium good fo...

Do you have more updates? I'm invested in the maggots! I have always wished I followed my forensics dream (back before it was a popular thing with all the tv shows!)

These look great but we use vernier go direct sensors. I should do this for my teachers!

Another vote for wiltronics. I haven't purchased specifically what you're looking for but everything we have purchased has been good and customer service has been excellent even when it was my fault ordering the wrong thing.

non-chemical storage
Has anyone used ikea or bunnings products (eg platpack wardrobes) for storage of non-chemical equipment? Obviously they're going to have weight limits but I'm trying to work out a cost-effective solution. Unfortunately the gratnells system is not an option at this time.

Anyone have a PDF of the CSIS guide they would like to email down to us Vic people ? :) A school subscription to RiskAssess would be a much more reliable source of information. I'm not sure if there have been online updates but the CSIS is nearly 30 years old so not exactly up to date... I'm in a p...

So am I right in understanding the students make the iron thiocyanate standard solution themselves as part of the prac? Or do I make it up for them right before the prac starts?

Re: vacuum filtration
My predecessor and I have VERY different brains! I think hers was better in a lot of ways. Unfortunately they moved out of labs into temporary labs in order to upgrade/rebuild (before my time) but the rebuild never happened so I was left with the "temporary arrangement" and I've been here ...

Yes this is it. Thanks. I can't work out what the sintered glass crucible is supposed to look like though. I'm pretty sure I saw some here the other day when I was looking for something else (this place needs a good clean out and it is happening soon!) but they didn't have any rubber around them to ...
