Re: cutting contact

I usually use the 21 stickers/sheet so that's fine. I am looking into getting some! I've got the admin lady looking up where she can get the best deal

Re: cutting contact

Buy the Avery heavy duty labels and you don't need contact. I know, bit late now but worth the cost. I don't think it will ruin the blade of the guillotine, but I'm not sure it will happily cut it. It could be tricky. And Macca - the sticky tape. My predecessor used sticky tape and it is so difficu...

cutting contact

Hi all, This is a fairly random question, but I'm just wondering if anyone on here has used a guillotine to cut contact to size for covering dropper bottle labels etc? Does it wreck the blade? I usually just use scissors because I'm not doing many at a time but I'm about to label 60 droppers and hav...

Would you mind finding out what topic it is in?

yes bigmack, ours are slightly different but essentially the same thing. I think I will toss them. I just wanted to check there wasn't one random prac they came out for in an obscure topic area before I ditch them. I feel like I should offer them to a museum! And the minute you do that, there...

Wheatstone bridge

Does anyone know what Wheatstone bridges are/were used for? None of our current teachers think they will use them so I'm hoping to get rid of them. Sorry I tried to attach a photo but it was too large.

printers

Do you have your own printer for science? What type do you have? Does it come out of the school's technology budget or the science budget? Who keeps on top of ordering the ink for it? I currently have to walk to the other end of the school to print a label if I make up a new concentration or just wa...

Do a search for peppercorn on here. I can't remember the details but you can get something out of soaking/boiling peppercorns to grow on plates.

Good to know!

And thanks everyone! I will keep the box of new ones with the solid bit and use them as the others get destroyed.

Re: gauze mats with solid centre

Yeah, I thought the point of the gauze mat itself was for heat distribution... I could only think if it was something that needed a gentler heat.... We have a heap of them in a box, brand new. I also have new normal mats coming soon. Maybe I can get the teachers to do an experiment with half the cla...

gauze mats with solid centre

This may be a really obvious answer, but why do some gauze mats have a solid centre? It's a white circle... What are they used for?

Re: Sodium Dichromate for cleaning glassware

I have some amber dropper bottles that have some kind of salt residue inside (or possibly etched into the glass?). I have tried scrubbing with a test tube brush, soaking in napisan, soaking in HCL (~2M) and while it has marginally improved, They are still quite cloudy to look through. Should I just ...

Thanks all! I'm purchasing them for me for making up stock solutions so I've gone with the A grade clearance ones from westlab. I figure I can't really go wrong for $16 each! They've already been shipped (they only had 2 left) and I'm looking forward to being able to make up stock solutions soon. I ...

Can anyone tell me the difference between A grade and B grade for volumetric flasks? I am looking at getting some 2L ones and the prices vary so much!! Re: storage of H2O2

Has anyone bought the bulk bottle (2.5L) of H2O2? It's more economical to buy it that way, but not if I end up having to throw it out because it's turned back into water... It would also save having to do the EUD as frequently!

Re: Cleaning retort clamps

My first thought is metho and a chux cloth to wipe them over. Not sure if that's a *good* thought!! If there's a lot of chemical residue on them I'd be just using water and a cloth though. As long as they can dry fairly quickly so they don't rust...
