Silver powder recovered from metal displacement reaction

Hi All
We have just done a metal displacement experiment with Yr 11 chemistry. I have recovered a whole lot of silver power and have dried it out. Is there an easy and safe way to heat the silver powder to create a solid silver bar or nugget?
Thanks in advance

Re: Bovine eyes

I buy all my dissection specimens from dissection connection. Bovine eyes I have never had an issue with, nor has any Teacher complained about cloudy lenses. They are vac packed pretty much straight away then frozen. I used to buy fresh from the butcher but every time I went to pick them up they had...

We just use an old style alarm clock, the one with the 2 bells on top. Most department stores sell them. https://www.google.com/search?q=alarm+clock+with+bells+on+top&safe=strict&rlz=1C1CHZL_enAU690AU690&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjl9Z2slOblAhWVbisKHcCECBAQ_AUIEigB&...

Re: Dehydration of sugar using sulfuric acid

I do ours in a tall beaker inside the fume hood. I think we only use about 20g sugar and about 50ml of sulphuric acid. the trick is to stir vigorously, you will feel the beaker start to heat up. we keep stirring until it is rather warm and then leave it. you will see it start to steam a bit and then...

Re: When does a risk assessment need to be done?

I always tell my teachers no risk assessment = no prac. It didn't take them long to realize that I meant it. It helps also to have a coordinator that is on board and backs you up. I also stated the personal and school fines that could be imposed on them if there was an accident. Don't have any probl...

Re: Aprons or Lab coats

Hi Elizabeth
We have lab coats and a great lab coat rack bought from Westlab. Things you may need to consider are: if you buy cotton do you have access to a washing machine/dryer at school? Rubber ones you could at least wipe down after dissections.
