Re: White Boards
OK did my homework on this The Premium ones have a 5 year warrantee , these are the ones we have at present . The teachers hate them . The Porcelain ones have a ceramic coating which has a 25 year warrantee and is scratch and dint resistant as well as they claim won't ghost or stain. We have ordered...

Re: Glass Tubing sizes to buy
7-8mm seems to be the best IMO . It fits the bungs that come with holes pre-bored . 7 mm fits in nice and easy , 8 will need a bit of lube as its very tight . I even have some strange 6.8mm stuff that's an easy slide in but seals tight when the stoppers are pushed into flasks etc . Don't forget to g...

Re: GHS Labeling
Found this in a link on the DET portal .It seems to be the most up to date directive for DET schools. Chemical safety fact sheet - Globally Harmonised System of Classification (GHS) On 10 June 2016 the Department published advice through School Biz concerning the introduction of the GHS system of ch...

Re: Performance and Development PDP
Had a look at what was on schoolbiz about it . All looked a bit flash and glam. Fancy words to make us feel important . \:D/ There were a couple of videos to watch . Only bit I caught about being moved around was the GA saying something about see what the staff in the office do . Seriously . I hope ...

Re: Hot plates

We have the IEC thermostat hot plate for the prep room and Simmerstats for the classrooms. You can use either but I find the thermostat one is better for making up ...

Re: Chemwatch 'fun'
Despite the excitement of realizing I don't have to do anymore labelling (According to Alan Smith ) ,I discovered today that the labels I had already put on all the Hydrochloric acid containers has the wrong GHS symbols on it . A Scull and cross bones and a Corrosive . It should be a Corrosion and a...

Re: Mineral and rock safety alert
Absolutely Narelle...I am not suggesting my gossip is gospel . Just a heads up not to throw the kits out just yet. As far as the Talc goes , I'm kinda with you about assumptions Merilyn .......but I don't think Alan would have flippantly suggested what he did if he felt there was any serious risk. A...

Re: Mineral and rock safety alert
Last week at SLAMN Alan Smith mentioned the Mohs hardness kits sayng that they had tested several different ones and they all were asbestos free . He said we could use our existing Mohs kits again . When asked about our Talc samples , he sad that they would be fine to use also and that they would ha...

Re: Christmas is coming
As well as Xmas , so is the last few weeks we have to do all the relabeling . Do you all not think it somewhat strange that the dept has not sent out any curcular to tell us we need to . I know a couple of Labbies that say they won't until they are told to. Can't wait to here Alans talk on the new C...

Re: Register of Hazardous Chemicals
Chemwatch seems to have ironed out a few bugs in their data base as hoped would happen when they switched to a new server .
Ammonium Thiocyanate and Ammonium Molybdate now print the correct Signal word and GHS symbols on labels .
The whole site seems a little faster and stable

Re: Hazardous Chemical register - chemwatch
Thanks Louise . Had a look around for a CD but couldn't find one but as Narelle just said , won't work on new computers. Surprising its not downloadable from the CSIS online . Since I've been here we have had everything on Chemwatch . We don't have any MSDS printed out as Everyone seems to think its...

Re: should latex stink??
We have two bottles of it in the Store room .
I haven't seen anyone ask for it ever since I've been here .
I asked at recess who uses it and why and nobody knew.
