Re: Job Description

I was told at a high school near here with 1200 students that they have only 1.75 lab tech positions (1 full time plus 2 part timers up to the 0.75) and that that's the maximum lab tech allowance that the Ed Dept here will give any school.

Re: Dry Yeast

60 degrees sounds weird to me! As others have said approx body temperature or a bit above. Yeast is not a thermophile... it doesn't live at the mouth of underwater volcanic vents or in volcanic hot springs!

The Dept of Education has a standard job description for anyone applying for a school lab job, which I'm pretty sure this has been worked on by members of the Tas Lab Tech's Association. It...

Don't worry about my last posting, I immediately went to a forum on job description and the first entry explained it!

Re: SASS Conference St Marys

Just wondering what SASS stands for? I know these postings were about last year's conference and that I'm out of area completely, but it's nice to understand what's going on around the country - you never know, I may be in the area for some reason...but who qualifies to attend?

Re: Our Title

I like the NZ title, "Science Technician". It is more of an encompassing title than "lab technician". The problem with the word 'lab' is that computer rooms, at least at this school, are called 'labs'...and "lab bookings" by the staff are for computer rooms, not for sci...
