Hi
I am interested in a workshop at Wagga. Its about 2 hours from me and a road I regularly travel as I have a daughter at CSU. Sounds like a good idea!

Re: spiny leaf insects
We have recently set up a tank with 4 stick insects of varying size in our lab. They were kindly given to our school by the Labbies at St Clares College in ACT. Our students are fascinated with them and were amazed when the two largest shed their brown skins and are now bright green and yellow with ...

Thanks for your prompt replies. Will go ahead and spray the wretched beasts (flies - not the kids) may even give the whiteboard a clean while I am at it!!! What a great hint.

Fly Spray
Hello All Our G.A. came to see me this morning to ask me what I knew about using Fly Spray in DET Schools. He was informed by our Admin. Staff that they were pretty sure that fly spray was banned. I have trawled through the DET site and searched Chemtalk but have not seen any information that says t...

Re: OH&S
Hello
It has been mentioned several times that Lab Assisatants are NOT allowed to train anyone to work in Science - only Head Teachers can.
Does anyone have any more information on this - particularly for NSW?
Mother did you ever hear from the PSA on this matter?
Regards
Jilly

Flammable Solids
I have a very small Chem Store and quite a large and uncluttered Flammable Liquids cupboard. Is there any reason why the flammable liquids and flammable soilds should not be stored in the flammable liquids cupboard (well separated)
I would appreciate your input.

Re: Grants for prep rooms
Hello Lindy
Your Principal was previously Principal of The Henry Lawson High School where I am the Lab Assistant. I had a few OH&S issues here in the Labs and Prep Room in his time here and I found him to be very pro-active. Tell him Jill sent you!!!

Reverse Osmosis Water Filter
I have just ordered a Vertex Water Deioniser for our Prep Room and am awaiting its arrival. So pleased to have positive feedback from other schools on it. I gave up using the water still in 2003 when the drought started to hit hard here and have been purchasing distilled water through our local hard...

Stomata in Leaves
Hello
We had great success yesterday with iris leaves (which are plentiful in our dry climate). Break the leaf across then tear longways to get a thin transparent piece of leaf tissue.
This may be of use.

Chemical Stocktake
Hello Everyone Could I have some feedback on how other Lab Assistants do their chemical stocktake. I have an old computer and the 2003 CSIS CD and use the Manifest and update and print out in Term 4 each year. We have just under 250 students in our school. I would like to know if there is a better w...

Hello
I too use Detcon 95 also available from Q Stores. It is initially dear to buy but lasts forever. Leaves glassware really clean.
