I bought chemicals and glassware from them this year. All delivered within a month. Good prices and quality.

Excellent! I've just come back to the computer, logged in and there it is! And yes, now I have to familiarise myself with the new set-up.

Re: Department schools change in Chemwatch
I've got my user name and password and it's worked fine until today. Now it's putting me into 'Chemffx trial' and I can't access any MSDSs. Anyone else got the same problem?

Re: Ammonium molybdate preparation
I've just started preparing the same prac. The HT asked for ammonium molybdate 0.1M in 5M sulfuric acid, so I've made up 19.5g in 500mL of 5M H2SO4.

Re: gas
YES, we do too. Each lab has a gas isolator knob which is pressed to turn off the gas. The teacher has a key to turn it on. That way the gas is only turned on when it is needed.

Re: Flexi day policy
The office staff here have had flexi's for the past couple of years. This is so the office is manned before and after hours (ie from 8am to 3.30pm). None of the other SAO's were allowed. But when I had to work in the office for a full term last year, I got 2 flex days - and so did the SAO replacing ...

Re: Where do you buy your beakers from?
I don't have a user name or password so I can only 'browse' the cataloge. Then I have to print out my shopping list and the SAM has to type it all back into the system to place an order. She has also told me that science supplies are not yet covered by the 'Smart Buy' system so I can order from whome...

We had a faculty review a couple of years back as a result of "poor" HSC results. It only involved the teachers.

Re: How long do you have for orders?
I ask for 24 hr notice, but now we're using RiskAssess to order pracs and the teachers have realised that they can put in an order from home, I'm not always getting it. Like this morning. When I logged out of the system on Friday afternoon there were no pracs schedulled for today. When I logged on t...

Hi, Linda.
Do you mean chemical solutions that you've prepared? Like 1M copper sulfate or 1M sulfuric acid? They all need MSDS's as well. (If Hazardous)

Re: Mini MSDS in Chemwatch
I do the same as Ellice. One set of full MSDSs in the staffroom, and a set of minis in each of the 4 prep rooms and Chem Store. I download and copy the updates as necessary. I give the full MSDSs as required to senior Chem, but most of the time the minis suffice.

Re: RiskAssess software
We've just signed up for the 2 week trial advertised here. One of my teachers wrote up a prac for 'splitting atoms'. He ordered a heat mat, a bucket of steam, a nail, a hammer and uranium. :w00t: The risk assesment generated said that it was a teacher only prac, but the teachers could be code 1,2,5....

There is debate over whether the particles, which are smaller than 1...
