Re: Solar Power Question

Hi You can get some very strange results with small cheap solar panels. One single panel is actually made up of a number of smaller silicon arrays, which in turn are all connected up in parallel to give you the required amperage at a certain voltage. What can happen is that the solder joints on chea...

Other than the Balloon prac for the Big Bang to explain the expansion of the universe are there any other pracs that you know, as the Teacher have been asking me, and for the life of me, I can't think of any other than PC based exercises.

Re: Ammonium nitrate

Lorrae It was 6 mths ago, and I think it was from SSA. Schools are exempt from a Licence up to 3KGs, but I think you hit the answer, and that it is too much of a headache. Having said that universities and other reseach organisations only buy small amounts, so must be available. My answer would be c...

Re: Ammonium nitrate

Hi

you are able to purchase Ammonium Nitrate, but you can't hold more than 3kgs under the legistation before you MUST get a Licence. I've been able to buy it without any problems. I've had this out with the appropriate Authority at WorkCover.

Chemical suppliers

Does anyone know if Chem-Supply will sell to us or we must go to a distributor as I'm after a chemical that my normal supplier can't supply, as its not a normal common chemical.

Re: How do you get your Prac Request?

Hi Like some of the others I insist on a form being filled at least 24hrs before hand, or it don't get done. The Teacher then have to do it themselves. I also provide an online request form recently which is getting great use as it can be emailed to me. Generally the Teachers all talk it through wit...

Yep

I do all the above, but there is another reason for doing it, and that is in the case where the science block burns down you can claim the full amount. Its also good to see what replacement is required. 8O

Noona I do it on rare occasions, but I leave it where it is unless it is an expensive item. I make a big thing about it if it not returned to the preproom and the state of the classrooms is highlighted with the said Teacher. It up to the teacher to make sure the Science Prac rooms are tidy. I will c...

Wato If this is for the metals (conductors) and non-metals (insulators), just use a piece of glass rod or tube. Pure silicon is very expensive and most of the electronic industry sources have been doped with other metals to allow then to conduct under certain conditions, hence transistors and interg...

Hi

I have to admit that I find it easier to make them generally due to the fact that getting particular rubber stopper with 2 or more holes hard to find, especially id the tubing are of different sizes.

I now have a stock set made which satisfy all needs.

Hi PhysicsOne Another method is to use hot and cold water from the sink taps over the tap body a few times then say after 3 time make sure you use hot as the last (boiling water on the last time just on the body only) then a gentle tap of the tap only (supporting the main body so as not to break it)...
