ethanol - denatured or undenatured?

Hi
Could someone please tell me the difference between denatured or undenatured ethanol? Does it make a difference to pracs? I usually purchase denatured but it is not in stock atm at my preferred supplier.
thanks :-)

Re: Digital Oscilloscope

Our old CRO gave up awhile ago so we bought a new digital one - Digitech. Had it for a couple of years now and have been quite happy with it. No doubt it won't last as long as the old one.

Fun ideas for teaching the periodic table

Our teachers are looking for some new ideas for teaching the periodic table. They do chemical bingo but wondering if anyone has any other interesting ideas?

Has anyone used these new circuit pens? They look fun

Haines now have them in stock. I'd be interested to know how long they last and if they can be used with components we already have.

SDS for radioactive sources

Hi all Do you have an SDS for your radioactive sources? I have gone directly to the manufacturer in USA and they have said the sources are exempt and provided an exemption letter. Seems to me this is a bit meaningless even if the sources are low risk. Can anyone tell me what they have? Thanks Kathry...

should latex stink??

The new bottle of latex we purchased absolutely stinks - the teacher planning to use it describes it as a mixture of rotten milk and dirty nappies. Certainly when he briefly opened it, we both gagged and rushed to open windows. Should it be so smelly or has it gone off?

storing radioactive sources

HI all

I have just purchased a new set of radioactive sources and a storage container. Can anyone tell me if it is ok to store the three different sources (alpha, beta, gamma) in the same container?

Thanks

Re: Solubility of Barium sulfate and calcium sulfate

They are for precipitation pracs - so she has a laminated chart with cations on one side and anions on the other including both calcium sulfate and barium sulfate. The students have to determine which reactions produce a precipitate. Bit hard if you are starting with a cloudy solution.

Solubility of Barium sulfate and calcium sulfate

Hi
What molarity do you use for barium sulfate and calcium sulfate for precipitation pracs? I made 0.1M solutions but they are very cloudy. I have even diluted the barium sulfate down to 0.01M and it is still cloudy. Should I be doing something to increase the solubility?

Hi
Does anyone have the LAQUA-TWIN SALT 11 METER (Westlab)? We are needing to buy a new meter after the last one did not last very long at all so i am wondering how robust this meter is.

We are needing to purchase new electronic balances. We need them to weigh to 2 decimal places. Any recommendations for good value but sturdy balances?

I do the chemical audit for the whole school. i include all chemicals whether opened or not (not dilutions or dropper bottles etc). I can't imagine why you would not include open chemicals - they are just as dangerous and the fire department needs to know where all hazardous chemicals are located. K...
