Asbestos in the lacquer??? Would that be true here too? We are using the drawers in many and varied ways across the faculty. How do I find out about this one?

Hi Merilyn1, I don't have any pics yet but I'll get some soon! THe trays came from KMart and cost a couple of dollars each. We have 2 large grey ones with 6 holes in each, 1 of the medium blue one with 15 holes and 1 of the small red one with 14 holes - but it measures 2cm x 1cm, so the students use...

Well, it's that time of the year again here. Last year one of my teachers bought some of the silicon ice cube trays - they come in 3 sizes and work perfectly to give 3cm, 2 cm and 1 cm cubes (plus a bit in case they shrink!) So easy to pour into the moulds, then turn out and give one of each size to...

We have a timber stand for ours, and connect it up to the power supply with wires. Old school, but it works every time. And we already own it!

Re: Turn around time for Equipment orders?
That is a ridiculously long time to wait!!! Did they contact you to let you know items were on back order?
Whenever we order from them, it normally takes a couple of weeks at the most.

My lot order a saturated sucrose solution, but I've been giving them around 5 - 10% or so and it works just fine.

Never been to Conasta, but I'm keen, especially if the school pays for me to go or I win free registration from ASET!

This year I will be putting CONASTA as a goal on my PDP, that way when I fill out the VOR I can directly relate it back to my PDP! That reminds me, ours are due my the end of next week, better get it filled out!!!

I"m DoE and I order from whichever supplier I choose. I am encouraged to shop around, and I have a card linked to the school Coles account to purchase those odds & ends we always seem to need.

Check with your HOD about whether you are to go by CSIS or Risk Assess when it comes to use of chemicals. And get the decision in writing so you're covered if anything goes wrong.

Re: chlorella
I just bought some clorella and the culture medium from Southern Biological. I now have a bottle of clorella (hopefully!) growing on my windowsill. If you look on the Southern Biological website there is a lot of info there on how to make a soil extract solution to grow it in. Good luck!

I sometimes get a couple of uses out of blades, especially if they've only been used for a small "clean" job. Once I've washed them, I spray them with my 75% ethanol spray and leave them to air dry. Stops the rust in its tracks! Once they're finished with, I use my handy dandy blade remove...

Re: Elodea alternative
I may have to scour the local ponds and see if I can find any. Of course I'm helping the environment by removing it! And if some just "happens" to keep growing in a tank here, well wouldn't that be nice...
There are other plants we can use I know, but elodea shows the process really well!
