Hi Merilyn,
Is it too late to ask for a copy of your booklet (which Debbie has created). Many thanks

Re: Solutions
I use the attached table - covered in contact paper and stuck to the bench beside my scales in the Prep Room. The table is printed on bright yellow paper, but any colour is easier than white in the Prep Room. These are the most common chemicals/molarity which we use.

Re: Fun experiments
Thank you all for your ideas. We are going to try out all of them (in our spare time) and hopefully make up a booklet of ideas over the next few months.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: How many prac's in 1 day?
Trish, Using Risk Assess has made the ordering system so much easier. If I don't receive the order within the first half-hour I am here, when I check emails, it doesn't get done that day and I insist on 24 hours notice. If they send the order through after 3pm (when I have left) then there is no way...

Re: home loan protection
Do you think that perhaps you should have just said you were a School Administration Officer and not specified exactly which faculty you work in? How can they not insure us? Perhaps our employers need to cover home loans.

Re: Fun experiments
Thank you for the suggestion of Elephant's toothpaste. We did that last year, and it was fantastic fun - the kids loved it.
Thank you Debbie, too; I have pm'd you as well.
Great site, fantastic supporters.

Fun experiments
We are having two busloads of primary students visit our school very soon. The HT has asked if we know of any new, fun, interesting and QUICK experiments we could show. Each group of 10 students will only have 20minutes in Science so we want something to impress them! Can anyone help with ideas, ple...

Re: Chem Store Room shelving
We have wooden shelving, but I have double glass (ex-broken windows) on every shelf. Excellent to clean and wipe over. Quite a few years ago our Gen Asst arranged with the local glazier that all broken windows be double-glazed and fitted to go over my wooden shelves - in both Prep rooms and most of ...

Re: Safety showers.
We only have a proper safety shower in the two recently refurbished labs. The other four labs have a sink - with the hand-held hoses being split and broken by students - so literally no showers. Also, the safety shower in the prep room is right beside two double powerpoints, has no drain, and is les...

Re: new regulations re safety showers
Or you could ask a local school in Port Macquarie who had the chemstore refurbished - her new shower is an old tap, right beside the acids shelf, with a drain on the floor. Yes, a normal, down on the floor, tap. If the Lab Assistant splashed chemical on her face, she would literally have to lie on h...

pH solutions OR tablets
I was wondering how many of you make the pH solutions up using the tablets, and how many buy the solution already made up? We bought solutions last year, but after only using about 200ml of the 500ml bottle, they are all now out of date.

Retort Stands
Does anyone have the older style grey retort stands they no longer need? Or know where I can purchase them? We need about 40, but the new ones don't appear to be as strong or as long-lasting. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Re: Sourcing of frozen rats
A few years ago when I worked at Tafe, the local National Parks staff would bring in eskys full of cane toads. They would GIVE them to us to dissect. Only problem was, the toads weren't quite dead - they had been soaked in Dettol or Pine-O-Cleen or something, and were "subdued". I would pu...
