Re: Mobile Phones
An ipod/ipad is part of the book list at one of my schools! They can only use an iPhone in place of an iPod if they sign a specific agreement with the principle. Mobile phones are allowed, but must be kept in their bags during school hours unless they have written permission, signed by the principle...

Re: Advancing up Levels
Rosalie, that's the wage here in Tas for level 9 teachers support staff (which is what Labbies are classified as under the Catholic Sector EBA) Generally the public award is slightly higher (but I do not know for labbies) There is no way I would do this job for what you NSW labbies get! ETA: our lev...

Re: Advancing up Levels
I work two labbie positions, one for 52 weeks a year (with probably 1 week forced closure which we use ADOs and 1 AL) one for 39 weeks with my wage (and AL I just found out grr) averaged over 52 weeks. It works for me atm as I have 3 young kids so it saves money on vacation care and my hours are pre...

Chem storage help: classes and sub classes
Hi All in Labbie Land, I have finally been getting my chem inventory up to date and just have a couple of questions on storage. When you have a common household chemical such as Ammonia or ascorbic acid, do you store it via DGC or just in general storage? I have one Flammables Cabinet where I separa...

Noona, do you mean so that the wet paper towel is in the bottom section and the seed sitting in the top? Sounds like a cool idea but I can't seem to visulise it.

Re: Term time only labbies - change of hols in QLD
Whats in your award/contract regarding days? One of my jobs is term time only but it states explicitly in my contract how many weeks I am employed for. Also do you salery aportion? That paperwork should also state the number of weeks you are paid for vs numer of weeks in the year in thier calculatio...

Re: Data logger for Mac OS
Thanks everyone. After talking to HOD today about it, he realised that it was going to be much more cost effective to go with a usb hub or hand held interface. So we decided on the new vernier LabQuest2 which has wifi and thus instant access to data for every student on their iPads/laptops. It worke...

Re: Data logger for Mac OS
Thanks Lis. The vernier is the one I know works with macs and I have just looked and they do have a usb plug and go type one. The reference to the one he gave me I cannot even find and what I can find says it is not compatible.
I think I'll just go with the one I know

Data logger for Mac OS
Does anyone know of any plug in dongle type data logger that is compatible for macs? MY HOD has left a funding proposal with me to do today whilst he is away and wants a quote for this type. Re: Are these chemicals appropriate
Yeah I was shocked to find out the ECT is still used as well .Our local private hospital does it under general as well. I was suprised at the amount of people who had it done really. It was a small ward by Aus standards but every monday their were at least 2 or 3 patients. (I used to have to do thei...

Yeah they are. So you do fit them in the Dabco ones?Did you mean the 125mm stuhl bottles? I thought they were pretty much the same diameter as the 50/60ml ones.

Re: Dabco unitray with insert
Thanks lad a. I was just looking at them in a catalogue, I don't have any. They wouldn't fit at that size anyway as the bottles are 40cm diameter. They are nearly 4 times cheaper then the dedicated still bottle trays. Will just have to leave my bottles in the tubs they are in atm I suppose.

Dime, he is an industrial chemist by trade. I am a biomedical scientist by training. Its not so much I don't want anything to do with them, just don't see the point of having dangerous goods around on a whim if they are not going to be used. We have heaps of sodium metal, so he can just use that. I ...

Re: Are these chemicals appropriate
Thanks, you have confirmed what I thought. I really did not want to get bromine as we haven't got a ducted fume hood (just one of those ineffective non ducted ones) and I couldn't source the lithium. Sulfur, we have heaps of at my other school but it never seems to get used except as an example in t...

Low melting point glass tubing
I have been asked to source this. Is it just Soda glass tubing? I'm finding it hard to find any info. I have no idea why HOS wants it.
