Lab assistant role in Townsville available
I’m really sad to say that my coworker is leaving at the end of this school year, so I’m therefore looking for a new lab assistant to work with me here at IPC.

Re: Stocktake programs
I wanted a Stocktake program for everything in the lab - beakers, flasks etc as well as chemicals, so Chemwatch won't work for that

Stocktake programs
Hi everyone
What do you all use for stocktake programs?
I have Omega Scientific's Laboratory Stock Controller program - it's quite old now.
I've tried Quartzy but it doesn't do all that Stock Controller does (historical purchase dates/prices etc).
I'd rather not use spreadsheets etc. Any other ...

Re: Safety Shower testing
I made a sock from a KMart shower curtain. Cut it in half, sewed it into a tube, thread a piece of rope through the eyelets. I can tie the top over the shower, and put a bin under the bottom of the curtain and it all pours into the bin, no mess!

Re: Job Description
I'm getting a bit tired of all the admin jobs being advertised at my school at the same level as my job.
They in no way compare! Sometimes I feel like applying for them so I can have a quiet, less dangerous, healthy job!

Student safety induction booklet
Hi everyone,
Does anyone have a student safety induction booklet / powerpoint they use at the start of the year to run students through working safely in labs? Could you share it here or email it to me?
Trying to update our ages old booklet and want some new ideas.
Thanks!
Annette.

Re: RECALL PORTABLE GAS COOKERS
Yes, that is why I am doing some research to see if there is an alternative. I posted that the question on Assist. We have 6 labs and only one with piped gas. The rest use portables, but we can't just stop using them because we wouldn't be able to do anything!

Re: RECALL PORTABLE GAS COOKERS
We had tripod risers built. A piece of ply with a hole cut in the middle for the bunsen to sit in, with two blocks of ply either side underneath to lift it a bit. The tripod sits on that so no new tripods needed.

Re: RECALL PORTABLE GAS COOKERS
Who is using the portable bunsen burners with butane canisters (labgaz / coleman)? They are now not recommended for use in schools.
Other than traditional bunsens or hotplates are there any alternatives?

Re: Making Gold Nanoparticles
Thanks. It seems a few people have done this experiment and purchased this chemical. Initial outlay is steep, but the amount used each year is very small so cost per use/year is not so bad.
