Re: Environmental friendly Disposable Gloves?

Happily there are a bunch of companies that make them. Think I'll order a box or two to try out, & if they're good start replacing my stock  https://australianorganicproducts.com.au/products/biotuff-200-compostable-disposable-gloves https://glovesnow.com/shop/bioglove-nitrile-disposable...

Re: Fake "poo" recipe?

I do a demo (lots of fun & mess!) of simulating the passage of food through the digestive system. I tried a few food combos & found these produced good fake poo at then end (pun intended), & if you squeeze it out from just above the bucket so they can see it happen, it also gives very pl...

Re: Help!! Meat tenderiser alternative

Hi all, I got some freeze dried pineapple online & tested it as a meat tenderiser alternative for strawberry DNA extraction. $16.99 for 12 small packs 10g each. Crispy fruits.JPG Ground it up in a mortar & pestle & added it to detergent, salt & water extraction buffer (10 ml dishwash...

Re: Cleaning cuvettes

With stubborn oily stuff I rub straight detergent on the area to coat it (works for cups/plates etc at home too), & leave it for an hour or so, then rinse really well with hot water.
Usually does the trick, but sometimes need to do a second treatment.

Re: Help!! Meat tenderiser alternative

I was thinking of trying to make my own tenderiser powder by grinding up dried pineapple, & storing it in the fridge. I think you can get dried pineapple rings at supermarkets, so when I've got some spare time I might get a pack & try it out. You could just use fresh, but I like the idea of ...

Re: Vacuum Pump

Years ago I bought a Welch pump, & it's a great little piece of equipment. It's both a vacuum pump & compressor, so great for inflating lungs/balloons, & also sucking the air out of flasks of leaf discs etc. They're harder to find now, but I'd highly recommend getting one. Fisher Scienti...

We have exactly the same ones, & we have plastic mouthpieces. Each kid uses one, & I sterilize them afterwards.

I got them from Haines, about $30 for a bag of 50.

I played around with this prac to try & get the grossest most realistic poop I could to entertain the kids, & this recipe gets great reactions, especially when you squeeze the poop out into the bucket (toilet) & get lovely satisfying splashes! :cheesy: :yuck: :cheesy: Simulating Digestio...
