Re: Dataloggers
Would absolutely recommend the Verniers. Worth the money. Easy to use and the applications for them are endless. Easy to take on camps and excursions. Love them!!

Re: HELP: Stick Insect care
I'm in North Queensland and we study stick insects in the 2nd half of the year. I found that if we misted the leaves heavily on Friday afternoon and left a few small pools of water in the bottom of the tank that was enough to get them through the weekend. However, first thing Monday morning when the...

Re: Flower Dissection
We just finished our disections yesterday. We use hibiscus that the teacher bought in from home. They were perfect, although a little worse for wear for the cold weather. (Yes, we think it is cold at the moment in North Queensland! It was 6 degrees last night! 26 degrees today however!) Hibiscus are...

Re: marble chips
Hi all, This may sound a little macarbe, but our source of marble chips is from pieces of old headstones. Broken ones sourced from the local stonemason and NOT the cemetary!!! My predecessor picked up several pieces years ago and if ever I need any extra one of the senior boys breaks some off for me.

8 Week course
Just wondering if anyone out there has heard of or knows anything about an 8 week course for people who hold science degrees to become a teacher. I can't decide if I am interested or not, and would love to know more about the course.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Chemical Disposal
Good morning all, I hope this is the right place to pose this question. After my new lab refurb it was time to relocated my chemical cupboards. I have discovered a container of oxidised (read totally liquidized) copper nitrate. Is there a way I can safely dispose of this without sending it off to an...

Re: VERNIER Data Logger supplier
Scientrific has also tried this scare tactic with us. We purchased our Vernier with another company and have had no trouble at all. When one of the probes we purchased was faulty, they replaced it no questions asked. Any questions that our supplier couldn't answer were quickly answered via the excel...

As always, you all have some timely advice.
We are dissecting rats next period, so the using metho idea is very handy.
Thanks again.

Re: Where are the Queenslander Labbies
Hi from the North,
I with Kristen. It's much nicer to live up here where the weather is warm in the winter. There is so much more to Queensland than the SE corner. Long live the north.

Re: rats
We have sourced frozen rats from a local pet supplier who supplies food for reptile and snake owners. They come frozen with all the relevant info and because they are for pet food, they have been euthanized(?correct spelling?) in the correct way to follow all the WH&S guidelines. Cost us about $...

Re: Dataloggers
We use the Vernier Lab quests. They have been fantastic, but yes, a little on the expensive side. Our biology class has just taken them into the field on their camp with great success and found them very easy to use. We have successfully intergrated them into our physics, chemistry and biology cours...

Jacaranda Science texts
Morning all, I'm on the lookout for anyone with any copies of Jacaranda Science 3, ISBN 0 7016 3387 5. If you have any available that you don't need anymore, I would love to give them a new home. Some of our copies haven't been returned and we are desperate to make up our class set again. Please let...

Polaroid filters
Hi all,
I have just purchased some new polariod filters and was wondering what the best way to store them would be. Our last lot have stuck together and become warped. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Welcome back to the mine face.
Thanks

Thanks Ocker,
Yes, our power supply is OK as a few of our tubes (eg neon) still work a treat in our set up.

Gas discharge tubes
Hi all, I am new to Chemtalk and this is my first post, so I hope I am doing it the right way. Our physics department has some very old gas discharge tubes that either don't work or are on their last legs. What is the correct way to dispose of them given one of them contains mercury? I have only bee...
