Re: Risk Assessments

Hi, I had this dispute with RA's earlier on in the year, as the teachers wanted unrestricted access to the chemical room. I rang workcover and even though the public schools have CSIS, The lady I spoke to said that CSIS was a generic RA on the chemicals and their disposal, But, It is not a RA on the...

Re: Lab Clear Out

When we cleared out we ran normal classes up until 1 week before handover, then we packed up 4 labs and 1 preproom in a week. I had All classes except any important senior classes helping. We packed it all in a shipping container and spare store rooms. I was also given another casual SAO to help for...

Re: Help me fix my water distiller!!!

Thanks guys, I have never cleaned it out, to tell you the truth I never knew we could or how. My teachers complained about it having a ph5,so I thought something was wrong. I thought it had to be ph7. Anyway will give it a clean as suggested and see what happens.
Many thanks Trish. :clap3:

Re: Port Macquarie Workshop

I can happily say that I just spoke to Richard Morante and he confirmed that it will be held on the 26th & 27th of November. The location will be at Camden Haven High School instead of Port Macquarie High. :D

Re: Port Macquarie Workshop

It is the same course, and I have applied to go, but when the confirmation details came back to my SAM they said that the location had not been determined and some other information may need updating.
We shall wait and see. :cheesy:

Corrosive cupboards

Hello, This may at some time have been mentioned, and I have searched but could not find a straight forward answer, but I want to know if we are 100% required to have a corrosive cupboard in our chemical store. I have found a old brouchure that says we should have a cupboard or a bricked in area wit...

Re: Ethanol & Permanganate experiment

Ohh be so careful, :-( My teachers did this two weeks ago to demonstrate to yr12 chem, anyway we kept it in the fume cupboard for two days, crackled and popped for a day and a half, was pretty watching little explosions in the glass measuring cylinder. Anyway after two days they said all reaction ha...

Re: How much are we supposed to do?

There is no-one organised at this school to do maintence work on science equipment. Sometimes I don't mind fixing it, but half the time I have no clue on how to begin. The GA takes 12 months to put a nail on the wall in this place. :redcard: Well its my hell and I have to do it. :-({|= I have spoken...

well I tried it though must admit didn't leave them in for more than 5min. Didn't do anything to the copper coating, the rusted ones cleaned up a little but not perfect.
Will have to torture the fingers with steel wool. :cheesy:
Thanks.
Any other ideas will be great to hear!

Cleaning Electrodes

Hi everyone, My electrodes are pretty bad at the moment, anyway, was starting to do the hard task with the steel wool etc when a new teacher suggested I soak them in nitric acid and rinse really well. :? Has anyone done this before does it work or is not worth the time? It would be great not to have...

For us its a big no, no! :redcard: You don't know what chemical the class before used. and if they cleaned up properly or spilt any. When it comes to sherbert, sometimes they take it to a home ec room, or if we have to have it in the labs we line a table with paper and cloth and I have a set of mota...
