Re: Disposing of Preserved Specimens
Hi folks, I know this is an old thread but I need help with a similar issue. We have a reeking collection of "things" in jars that really need to go. I have no idea what the preservative is, what the "things" are or how long they have been in the cupboard. Most of them have the c...

Re: St Mary's Conference 2009
Hi Noona, Thanks for that - I will be grateful to learn anything. Plus hanging out with a bunch of white coats should be just as cool. Although I do believe Liz's coat is orange and mine is tie dyed blue! :D I have Liz taking care of me with room buddies and transport and I even mentioned to my SAM ...

Re: St Mary's Conference 2009
Hello folks, I have just faxed off my application!! My Science HT was very happy to put in a cheque request and pay the course fees out of the science budget as a teacher resource; the SAM still commented on the cost of relief and said it turns out very expensive which made me feel a little guilty b...

Re: Using Appendix D for labelling
Thanks macca and Whspa, I found a chart on Wikipedia (of all places) that listed the monohydrate as MW 171 and the octohydrate as MW 315. Started scratching the head thinking - how do I figure out which one I have. Then I thought to read the label on the solid in the Chemical store! (Just looking fo...

Using Appendix D for labelling
Hello folks, Couple of (blonde) questions! I'm labelling solutions of chemicals and notice that Appendix D uses a lot of percentage solutions and not molarities to classify whether the chemicals are orange or green (DET talk for 11-12 or 7-12). Just want to check that I'm heading in the right direct...

Re: Searching Chemwatch
Hello Folks! I am so excited. \:D/ I am now the proud owner of Appendix D! (well two copies actually - one rightfully restored to the big orange folder and another copy just on its own that I can tuck in my desk drawer. No wonder you guys said it was so useful. I remember using this back in 2003 in ...

Re: Searching Chemwatch
Hello Labfriends, I have been plodding away today with Chemwatch trying to find info as per the other posters. I have just found the labels! But nothing else I’m trying to find. What I’m really looking for is a list of chemicals in various concentrations that indicate the DET c...

Re: PLEASE BE CAREFUL
Thank you wonderful people for your posts. You will be pleased to know that thanks to your concern and a couple of personal messages and phone calls ( you really all are lovely people) I will not be going ahead with my chemical clean out on Sunday. Interestingly my husband (a teacher) was very edgy ...

Re: PLEASE BE CAREFUL
Hello everyone - gosh I've learned alot from this thread - even something about chemicals! Have printed out the sheet and even understand some of it. I think I'd give you all a heart attack with my lack of knowledge on chemical safety. Speaking of chemical safety and extra hours I am going to come i...

Re: Standard stock soultions
Hello again Liz, Just found the checkbox to tick when a reply is posted. And also stumbled on the attachments tab at the same time. It is glaringly obvious that today is one of my office days when I actually have time to look at Chemtalk, as opposed to my Science days when I am lucky to sit still fo...

Can't believe I missed that shout! Ah well - hope those bacteria have done something interesting. On the important topic of motorcycles - we have sold the yellow Suzuki and are back down to 1 road bike and two off roaders. Husband bought a Corbin seat for the roadbike on eBay and managed to sell the...

Hi Liz, Great to hear of your adventure in the new job. Did you take before and after photos. I did! I'll email you some. We are getting lab upgrades too! Woohoo! Looking forward to some bright new colours. (over olive green) Maybe I'll tie dye another labcoat. Not game to change to plastic bottles ...

Re: Update from Slarti McBartfast
Hi Richard,
Enjoy your new adventure.
Just wondering... do all the Ducatis fit in the shed now or are they still in the lounge and kitchen?
Our motorcycle collection has increased to four this last month but thankfully all fit neatly in the shed, alongside the Torana!
Cheers,
Patti
