Our Senior chemistry are doing the Preparing artificial fragrances and flavours experiment.
Has anyone made the salicylic acid or the decanoic acid stock solution.
Any recipes would be great - thanks in advance.

Decanoic acid, also known as capric acid (C10:0) or decylic acid, is a saturated fatty acid. Its formula is CH3(CH2)8COOH. Salts and esters of decanoic acid are called decanoates or caprates.

I'm pretty sure it was salicylic acid that our Chem teacher used last year . he'd never used it before . Next minute , I'm driving the Physics teacher around to the ER ( hospital is only 500m up the road) with a bad Asthma reaction .
This year he didn't use it , no issues from the physics teacher . Just say'n

Mine is older stock but still fine to use. I think it came from either Chem Supply or Serrata Chemicals a few years ago.

We have n Octadecanoic Acid otherwise named as stearic acid in our range.
