Hi my friends,

Could anyone give me the right recipe for fake blood? I've got different recipes with golden syrup or flour but I made it twice still I haven't found a good recipe. Could you please help me?
Thanks

This is what we do here - works well

Group A Blood: 0.5M NaCl
Group B Blood: 0.1M BaNO3
Group AB: equal 50/50 mix of A and B
Group O Blood: Water
Add red food colouring to make it look like blood

Antisera A: 0.1M PbNO3 (coloured pale blue)
Antisera B: 0.1M Na2CO3 (coloured yellow)

If you are doing blood spatter for Forensic science this works for me.
175g corn flour
75ml water
175ml golden syrup
3 teaspoons of red food colour
1 teaspoon green food colour
Mix together. If it isn't splattery enough add a little more water. I had some of this made up and put the leftovers in a gladwrapped beaker in the fridge and forgot about it. Ages (and I mean ages) later someone wanted fake blood at the drop of a hat. I pulled the beaker with this fake blood out of the fridge. The golden syrup sat on top of the cornflour sediment like glue on top of concrete. It took some effort to get it back to working condition but it was fine. It hadn't gone off and I didn't have to rush around buying stuff from the supermarket.

I was given a simple recipe for fake blood by a 'special FX' makeup artist (many years ago at a science club fair):

Chocolate syrup mixed with fire engine red powdered food colouring. Right colour & thickness for arterial blood!
