Anyone know any "exciting" pracs or demo's for year 8 chemistry? Besides Elephants toothpaste that is.

Take care doing chips and cheezels - one of our teachers investigated this prac and found that they give off dioxin when burnt.. we do not do it any more.. but don't take my word for it - do some research yourself

Mixing methylated spirits with water, soaking a handkerchief or cloth and then setting it alight. They are always amazed that the cloth doesn't burn.

There is a fantastic golden rain precipitation demo you can do using lead nitrate and potassium iodide.

Teacher just tried to order this through email. I'll let her know that bit of info.
