Repairs to Science equipment

G'Day all, last week I visited a school in central coast area, and spent the day repairing equipment and enjoyed myself no end.
All the stuff I loved in the job, and none of the mundane, so I have taken out an ABN No and will visit schools on invitation, to repair equipment and show labbies the way.
If you are outside the Newcastle Central Coast area, will try to give advice on this forum
All the best in science. OCKER

Hay Ocker, that is a really great idea. Our chap is retireing he once was a teacher, and has done this for over 15 years now. He picks up the items from the school, and sends them back via Post office, some schools have also mailed him the broken items. We type up a list as to which items are broken or damaged, if they are engraved or not, serial number etc, as he did so many schools, he often lost track of want beings to whom.

Good luck

Thanks all, my plan is to do all repairs in school unless I have to take it away to use special gear to fix it.
Get all your broken equipment on a trolley or bench and I will decide what can be fixed or binned then work on it in a prep room.
If you have time I will also show you how to repair

If you come to Victoria...or Cairns... to repair equipment, surely it would be a tax deductable work related claim. Think about it!

I will be attending the ASET annual general meeting any Sydney siders can dump gear on me there I will take home and quote for repair, then have 1 trip to Sydney to return all gear.
I also will be building some equipment and will offer it on approval. Espicially hi - voltage power supplies for driving Crookes tubes.

Hi all. Is there anyone who comes to schools in the Hawkesbury area for equip repairs? We had a lovely GA that was nice enough to keep the equip up to scratch but he has now retired. :-(

You could try Redbank Instruments. Google them. Not sure how far they will travel though!

Have had the pleasure of having Ocker at the school cleaning and repairing all our microscopes.. He has done a brilliant job - very professional and efficient. He also looked at and repaired some other equipment for us..

much much less than any one else. less than a Mc Burger meal deal..
send him a PM letting him know numbers and types of microscopes you have and he will let you know what he will charge.
Our senior ones did not take very long, they were in good shape, so he raced through those. The junior ones were very bad, so that took most of his time. I set him up in a small prep room and took the microscopes to him on trolleys - and he pottered away head down working on them, only being dug out for morning tea lunch and going home time.As we have over 90 microscopes it took a few days.

Hi ocker,
are you still in the repairing business?
I have an induction coil that's not working......
I'm in Lake Macquarie.

Yes! But pension mob won't let me charge ,so would look at it, and see if it can be repaired.
If the coil is burnt out you would have to buy a new one. Either phone me or email me
