growing waterweeds for photosynthesis in prep room

Post by Adrianna »

Hello All
Does anyone grow their own water weeds such as wisteria etc for the photosynthesis prac. We do this prac in yr 7 and yr 8 and it becomes quite costly at $5.00 per 5 plants. Just wondering if anyone uses grow lights and heat pads with an aquarium? or do you have an alternative prac?

I have been growing plants this year, but it is a hassle. I had to get plant food, set up proper aquarium with light and aeration.
Tank would get very green needed cleaning etc and since we have 2 tanks with fish in it, I put all the plants there. Fish tend to eat them, so I still have to replace them but not too often.

Thanks Lada - I probably need a heat mat and full spectrum lamp to have success.
