Edible roks experiment

Does anyone/what do you substitute the nuts in the edible rocks prac for? We are a nut free school. I am trying to rack my brains for something hard-ish and crunchy but cant come up with anything. Someone suggested jellybeans but I don't think they would go too well in the oven.

Any suggestions?

You can use mini or large M&M's for baking...

Raisins or saltanas would work better than jellybeans, but for crunch try either cornflakes, or dried banana chips.

Hi
Our simple recipe:
600g Rice Crispies
250g Copha
2.4kg chocolate
4 pkt raspberries
2kg marshmallow
Some teachers vary with worms, cut snakes as another fossil to the raspberries.
Another teacher crushes a packet of plain biscuits.

We don't use nuts, coconut and in some classes no copha either.

Well they are down in the kitchens now making their rocks. I have asked for photo's (and hoping for a taste test!) so will see how it all turns out. This is the first attempt at this school. If it is a success I can see it being a staple "end of term treat" prac.
