A teacher has asked me if I have any ideas or can find out anything as an example to fulfil this from Yr 10 Curriculum.
So - does anyone know of any examples to use for this??

Our year 10 students have to do an assessment task on this.
They pick a biotechnology and do a written and then oral report.
These are the guidelines thay can pick the technology from

Transgenic Species
The term Transgenic Species describes an animal or plant that has been genetically altered.

Xenotransplantation
The transplantation of an animal organ into a human body

Cloning
A specialized genetic process whereby a DNA sequence, such as a gene, is transferred from one organism to another and duplicated by genetic engineering techniques. Cloning is a form of asexual reproduction.

In Vitro Fertilization
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a procedure in which eggs (ova) from an ovary are removed. They are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory procedure, and then the fertilized egg (embryo) is returned to the female’s uterus.

Embryo Transplantation
After artificial insemination, the process by which the fertilized ovum (egg) is transferred to the recipient's uterus.

Surrogacy
The process involving a woman carrying and giving birth to a baby for another person.

Gene Therapy
The treatment, cure or prevention of disease by changing or repairing defective genes.

Stem Cells
Cells which have the potential to become any cell found in the adult body.

Googling any of these brings up a lot of results.

CSIRO does a lot like the Sheep Blowfly program in Canberra, and the corresponding Screw-Worm fly program in PNG. They create mutations that have adverse survival results - e.g. blind, or wrinkled wings, or infertile offspring etc - and release quantities of these flies into the wild populations to breed and cause them to breed themselves into extinction!

Haven't seen the Yr10 curriculum so not sure what part of Biotechnology they want the kids to look at.
