We've got the home made wooden 1metre ones with wing nuts, these are just loosened a bit so I can fold them up. Some really good ideas in this thread.

THanks for your replies, I'll look at options for making some.

I've been here 12 years and only twice been asked for them (by the same teachers in separate years), and those times I just attached some 1m rulers together with wingnuts. Deconstructed them back to rulers again, but it seems and acceptable option. I loke the conduit/elbow idea as well, just don't think I'd bother to go to that much trouble if it is another 10 years before I'm asked again.

Our bunch take them on a field trip to the coast every year & fling them around on the dunes! They've lasted ages, only need a quick rinse on return, & only come back with an elbow missing every few years

Hi all
I have read the quadrant discussion and I got ours made.
They are 50cm sq in 10cm sqs and they can come in the colours you like! You can have 1M sq if you like.

Innovative Ideas is the name of the company. Peter can make, build, most things you want.
I have a very nice Glass cutter he built so that I can cut glass at the same length time after time. I just set the lenght and away I go.
His email address is ideas@dragnet.com.au

Wow quadrats, Teacher cannot remember what she used last year and considering I was here and I told her what we had she was not impressed. We had wooden squares, with bolts and nuts in corners, that could be collapsed and have had since I started here. She said this year that they were not acceptable as they need to be thrown over the head backwards rather than placed, in order to get a random result. So I have one test one with glued corners and another that I have filled in the holes and am going to attempt to screw together and am planning to try a couple of other ways with the existing ones. Just need to raid the workshop tomorrow to see if they have some pipe to see if that will satisfy.

How is throwing them any different to randomly placing them on the ground? Weird teacher.
We have rigid metal ones but they are the pits for field work so we had some collapsable ones (PVC pipe with elbow joints) "made"

Seen some of the student throw them, its repair and retape up every time, it does not matter which ones we get, its always repair before we put away.
Sorry but some Teachers do not look after the equipment, to them its our job, so just throw.
