cleaning microscope objectives

Post by melissa »

A large number of our old senior microscopes have a brown translucent coating over the 40x objectives which I can not : remove . Does anyone have suggestions other than windex or ethanol or is it possible to buy only the objectives to replace them ? :-?

Yes, you should be able to buy different size objectives for your microscopes.
Ring the supplier.

Hi did a cleaning microscope course and in toolkit there was Windex and also a wooden skewer. On the blunt end of the skewer was a small triangular piece of chamois glued to it. You can try and rub the objective with the pointy end of the skewer after spraying with Windex and then wipe dry with chamois. Hope this helps.

If you don't have any lens cleaner (in a pressure pack) you can use ethanol.
Sounds as though it might be iodine so ETOH should remove it, but its really worthwhile buying the lens cleaner.
Styrofoam is also good for removing dust and fingerprints but you need to use a clean piece for each wipe.

Hi
I've just bought 3 100x objective lens to replace ones that had lens falling out. For our microscopes it was $39/objective. Got them from Industrial & Scientific Supply Co.
