sodium acetate and ammonia mixture

FOR tomorrow - thursday -
I have been asked to make a solution of 8 ml of 3% sodium acetate with 4 ml of 35% ammonia added to it - for chromatography of gel pen ink..
I am so rusty!
Isn't the product of this AMMONIUM ACETATE?
If so why can't I just use ammonium acetate?
using conc ammonia is not my idea of fun!
