Nylon using Hexamethylenediamine

Hi Guys,
My chem teacher wants to make make Nylon. The method that she was wanting to use requires Hexamethylenediamine and Sebacoyl Chloride. Do any of you knowledgable people know where I can get hold of Hexamethylenediamine? Science Supply have Hexamine, but I think that is a different compound (Hexamethylenetetraamine, I think). Would this work anyway?

Have any of you made Nylon? How did you do it?

I had the same problem so we just gave up and they did something else.
I try the usual supplies no one had it

Hi Ian yes we made it but as a demo only, its on page 67 of the Science Focus 4 Text, try searching for 1,6-diaminohexane instead of hexamethylenediamine!!!!!!!! to purchase we had some from before my time. We used adipyl chloride. All worked well, VERY FUMEY do in fume cupboard including weighing out! MariaC

Hi Ian, we made as well, using sebacol chloride and 1,6 diaminohexane (the same chemical, different name). It work well.
Good luck. We got our chemicals from Serrata.
