Changing an alcohol to a halogen

Post by Krysia Lee »

Me AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
One of the chemistry teachers here is asking for 1-bromo-butane and 2 bromo-butane. I've rung a few suppliers and can't get it so she has suggested I try making it. I would put the shocked smilie here if I knew how. I did a quick internet search but haven't found anything yet, thought maybe one of you genius type folk may know how to do this. I'd be forever in your debt.
Cheers

Where do these teachers train!!!!!!
If you were a chemist in industry maybe you could make the bromo butane but at a school?!
Tell her to get real and stick with the syllabus.

One of the tests for saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons is a reaction with bromine.
I guess if you react butene(with double bond) with bromine, might give you bromo-butane, but try and get butene?? I think not.
Yah, as Judy says tell her to get real. :redcard:
