Hi Celia
I clain car usage for travellyng with supplies I bring to school, ie flour, sugar etc etc, laundry for washing lab coat, any courses that I pay for and are work related (none this year), uniforms, I have a jumper with school logo on it, other than that I am pretty standard, but I would be interested too to see what others are claiming,
Cheers Lisa

I claim for travelling expenses for shopping, washing of clothes, safety prescription glasses, shoes because they have to be 'safe' ones for Lab, thats about all we can claim isnt it?? I have been told that I can claim for the things that I buy out of my own pocket, that the school doesnt re-imburse...such as the supplies pumps etc ofr the fish tanks and the yabby tank...
Is there someone clever out there who can think of anything else :?

Repairs to you lab shoes, I have mine done once a term, so claim for four (4) repairs each year. I believe you can only claim for ONE new pair per year.

Well, that'd be a lie! Who told you that? Of course you can claim shoes - they're an OH&S requirement! I buy black nursing shoes from a specialist footwear store, and I claim a new pair every year! Like others, I also claim washing my lab coat. My school has paid all my training expenses so far, so I can't claim that.

Cheers, K 8-)

I claim all travelling expenses, actually keep a list on my desk and fill in all the klms done, where I went and what I bought. I also claim my black leather shoes (purchased from Rivers) and we can also claim things like hand cream, any gloves you buy yourself, safety glasses (surely you need a new pair every year) aprons (if you buy or use one). It is really worth using a Tax agent like H & R Bloch, or ITP just once, to see what we can legally claim!

I claim shoes (if I've bought new ones - about to get some this week hopefully so I can claim them!), Km travelled etc. (I think you can claim up to 5000km without a log book). The school mostly pays for any training I've done (eg the St Mary's one last year) but I paid for the motel, so I'll claim that back (hope I can find my receipt!). Also washing of lab coat... but I think that's about it.

I claim any safety equipment I provide, I mean I have a better pair of safety googles than the students that I buy for myself, lab coat/s and washing expenses, Shoes/boots. Travel, any costs associated with training that your school does not cover. It starts to get complicated if you do some work from home as well.

I also claim a percentage of internet at home for looking up experiments etc. Also some stationary items, laundry, shoes, glasses, lab coat, a bag, uniform if it is embroided with school logo, travel, and anything else that my accountant thinks of at the time. It is best to keep a list of whatever you spend throughout the year. But we can claim a few things that office workers claim as we do some office type work. Sunscreen, hat (if you do any outdoors type of work I work with our ag department also so i even got to claim gum boots). ASk you accountant and he/she should let you kniow what you can can not claim.

Hi
I have claimed sunglasses over the last couple of years. Samples of flowers and leaves for Biology classes are collected outdoors, some outdoor experiment setups, etc.

hello,
my mother is an accontant and does my returns. She claims for Lab coat and laundry, workboots, books the school doesnt want but I think I need, taxi for getting supplies(I don't have a car), sunburn cream. That's all I can think of at the mo. I don't think you need receipts either for travel in your own car up to 5000 km. I will check with her when I hand over my stuff for this years return.

Hi All

It is that time of year again!
Does anyone have any interesting tax deductions since last year?
Does anyone claim books, stationery or such?

Rita

if you bought them with your own money to use primarily at work, you should be able to claim just about anything as long as you can say why you needed it.

I claim a diary each year and also travel to and from the shops, I do shopping for Home Science and Science. I did travel to Wagga last year for a Chem course and was able to claim that. I did try to claim some clothes but they did not qualifiy as we don't have an official uniform. :coffee:

I claim shoes, a back pack, laundry of clothing, diary and general stationary. Also fuel if you go to and from shops as most of us do. If you go to any sort of get togethers with other Labbies :coffee: . I claim some of my home internet :mail: . In general you taxation person should let you know what you can and cant claim.

Yeah, laundry & shopping (supermarket, abbatoir etc.)

I keep a voice recorder in my vehicle to record trips - so much easier than a written diary. Play it back and type the info into an Excel file on my home computer.
