Re: DNA Model
Does anyone have a DNA model?
What do you do instead to show the students a DNA strand?? besides a picture/computer image???

Annette,
We have a very solid model, but it's so old that it's stamped:
Instrument Workshop
Sydney Teachers College
and I guard it carefully....
Just looked in a couple of catalogues - Westlab have one (can't see the price),
so do Southern Biological.

Re: DNA Model
Hey dolphinscales,
Some of our best models of DNA we have to show are from senior biology assignments to make DNA models.
Wooden frames, wire and beads, that sort of thing. Maybe it's worth talking to the teachers about it.
Cheers,
Lou.

Re: DNA Model
We've got a 71-piece 'Zome' DNA kit (and a buckyball). The plastic bits for bonds and nucleotides are colour-coded. The teachers get the expert to construct it (rather than the kids), so we haven't lost any pieces (yet)!

Re: DNA Model
We recently purchased a lovely coloured DNA model which is in a perspex box. All the teachers have been very happy as we only had a broken wooden one before.
We also get the girls to make models but this one gets a lot of use. It came from Serrata and cost $150 so I don't know if that is too much for your budget.

Re: DNA Model
smiley-you guessed it. And its because I just follow the instructions instead of saying "this should go there, no that should be opposite this" etc.
