Hello. Does anyone have a source for tapers? Or if use something as an alternative - what would that be?
I can't find any reference to buying them in Australia. Yet the teachers keep asking for them!
As far as I am aware they are a long thin tapered candles, but one teacher believed they did not have wax on them.
So are they long pieces of thin wood? And cn you buy them?

Re: Tapers
Hey hey, welcome Catholic World! We get ours from Gaffney Trading. You can buy 50 English white tapers for lots of money ($19 from memory), or 100 Australian beeswax ones for about $5.00. Their website doesn't list prices, but we just bought another supply recently. Just google them, they're quite quick. WE were allowed to use a school purchase order (we are a cathedral school), and I just ordered by email. Hopefully you can do the same thing.

Re: Tapers
Hi Lita
I gave up with tapers - too much mess on the glassware, benches and floors!
I used to buy kebab sticks, but I now buy wooden applicator sticks from Livingstone:
WAPPSTP 2 x 150mm Box 1000 $5.12 (inc GST)
Cheap as chips and so much easier.
Regards,
Fran

1 Box of vigil tapers ( beeswax) = 20.00
2 Boxes lighting tapers (long white) 28.50 - 55 in each box
I keep them in a straw to help prevent breakages.

Re: Tapers
We use paddle pop sticks generally, or short lengths of cotton twine.

Re: Tapers
We sometimes just use birthday candles... or applicator sticks/paddlepop sticks like others have mentioned.

Re: Tapers
We have tapers. I don't know where from. I discourage the use of them as whenever they are used, I seem to spend the next week cleaning wax out of clogged Bunsen Burners.

Re: Tapers
I quite often purchase "Party Candles" pack of 24, 17cms long and really thin (like a match) and in a variety of colours. Often on sale at supermarkets for about $1 or thereabouts I think. We also use paddlepop sticks, and skewers.
