Help please - High conc. CuSO4 / Cu(NO3)2 solutions

Post by kazuki »

Hello everyone! I would appreciate some advice with the following please :-( :

This is for a "constructing a galvanic cell" prac. I got a request for 5M CuSO4 or 5M Cu(NO3)2 solution. From research and trial & error, I know that the solutions eventually become supersaturated where crystallization subsequently occurs. From your guys' experience, what're the most concentrated copper solutions able to be made without any crystals or solid chunks forming? Sorry, this sounds like such a simple topic but I couldn't seem to find an answer. Thanks everyone! :D

I'm not sure you can make a 5M CuSO4....according to the bible (ie. The Laboratory) a saturated solution of CuSO4 is 22.3 g in 100 mL which is pretty close to 1M I think????

I agree with Elizabeth .
I have never been asked for anything higher than 0.5 - 1mol/l for galvanic cell pracs .

I wonder if teacher has given you a typo

We use 1M for the Gal cell prac, works a treat, any lower and sometimes it's hard to see a change unless using digital multimeters.
