how often do you clean chem stores?

Post by Jennag »

Hey guys,

Just a quick question...

How often do you clean your chem store??

I have 2 Chemical stores on in the senior upstairs part of my building then one all the way down in the middle school. Time seems to get away from me some days but I know its a job I should be doing, I just wish we didn't get such a buildup of rust etc. I have acids/ alkalis in 2 separate laminated chipboard stores and separate oxidizers and flamables cabinets. We have exhaust fans and its definitely not too fumey in either room.
Don't get me started on my middle school setup...

Any suggestions would be great, thanks

I sweep the floor if the leaves are all over the floor. I wipe the bottles as I get them out.

I never spend time cleaning the chem store, apart from occasionally sweeping the floor. I'm going through the chem store at the moment, working out what needs to be re-labelled. So the things that haven't been used in a while are covered in dust - good chance to dispose of things that are taking up room that haven't been used in years and the layer of dust is an easy way to spot them.

If your shelves are corroding, check that you don't have a leaking bottle which needs to be thrown out. If there is nothing now causing a problem, may be it's time to look at new shelving. It could be a WHS issue.

We have an insect problem. There is a metal beam the goes right through the length of the building and it is a higway for ants and other insects. This makes it a happy hunting ground for spiders. Every morning my desk is covered with dead and dying insects. That is annoying enough, but what really gets to me is the live ones that fall onto my head! then wriggle down my back!
