Removing copper plating
Removing copper plating
I have some carbon electrodes that were plated with copper. Some carbon electrodes have been cleaned with elbow grease and steel wool but I can't get the copper off some of the electrodes no matter how hard or how long I scrub. Any ideas?

A fairly strong molarity Nitric acid works a treat. You do need to leave them to soak for a while, all day or overnight, and the copper will come off. I did mine earlier in the year a some took a couple of soaks, changing the acid in between.

I'll have to remember that tip for next time! I've only used emery paper on them as I didn't know how to remove the copper either. Thanks!
