Back Titration Ideas

Hi All,

My teachers are looking at doing a back titration, any tried and tested methods out there you are willing to share?? :giggle:

Hi Guys,

Its where you cant titrate one substance directly against another, so you react A with B in excess and then titrate residual B against C and calculate the amount of A by working out how much of B was used in the first reaction! :cheesy: Hope that makes sense!

we use 0.1m Sodium Hydroxide and 0.1M Hydrochloric acid and phenolphthalein indicator. :thumbup:

Hi Kimmy, from my understanding, thats just a straight forward titration, not a back titration. Cheers M

We do "Determining the purity of a sample of calcium carbonate". You put the accurately weighed carbonate in excess HCl then titrate the remaining HCl with NaOH. I can try and scan it for you if you want.
