MICROSCOPE SLIDES

Post by Vick »

Currently year 7 are studying cells.

One of the Science teachers wants to make slides using banana for the students to look at. She thinks she smears the slide with a small amount of banana and a drop idodine. Is this right?

Thanks for any help.

Hi
That should be right. You make wet mount specimen (squash banana and add iodine solution, cover with cover slip) and because banana stores glucose as a starch it is easier to see (turns purple)
if you want to see cell only then you can use Methylene blue as well
