Do you use distilled water for every thing, or just a few things?

Like only Silver Nitrate.

Only use distilled water for year 12 titrations or when a teacher specifically asks for it, generally just use tap water for making up solutions.

I use distilled water to make up senior chemicals including acids/bases when they need to be made for titrations etc

The stock solutions of acids and bases for junior classes are made up with tap water that is all that is really necessary for the purposes they are used for.

HCl 1M made with tap water will still react with magnesium, still give the appropriate reaction with indicators and sodium bicarb etc.

Taking into account hydrochloric, sulphuric and acetic acid as well as sodium hydroxide and lime water with lesser amounts of Nitric acid and ammonia I would make well over 50 litres of stock solution of these alone each year.

Copper sulphate for crystals and junior work is also tap water.

I have a de-ioniser which I bought at conciderable expense several years ago but it doesnt like my water supply (too mush stuff in it) There isn't money to try a different type so out comes my old still which is the other reason I only use distilled water when it is absolutely necessary.

Tap water for junior solutions with the exception being silver nitrate, and deionised water for senior pracs. It helps to have separate campuses so that I don't have to think about who gets what.

You must use distilled water when making up silver nitrate otherwise it goes cloudy and defeats the purpose when trying to test for chlorides.
