Cotton covered wire

We have used cotton covered wire for making electromagnets since I got here 15 years ago.

Our supply of this wire which built up during the years when the schools were supplied with stuff based on their numbers is now just about used up and I am trying to locate more.

I have looked at the Serrata, Haines, Livingstone, Labtek and West lab catalogues to no avail.

Does anyone know if it is still available and if not will enemel coated wire work for electromagnets.

Thanks

Wendy

Careful with the enameled wire, if the little darlings put too many volts onto the coil, it gets hot and melts enamel

I wish I could order, this SAP system is doing my head in. I'm still awaiting for some one __________ from the DEC to show us how to order out side the DEC Procurement. I only need Universal Indictaor. But its not on the Procurement as yet.

Why don't you make your Universal indicator. It is awfully cheap and more convenient to make your own. Of course you need the ingredients, but you might have them too.

I do not have all the ingredients for Universal Indicator.

Could you borrow what you don't have from a school nearby? I remember I had to borrow some Thymol Blue when I wanted to make UI. What I was given lasted me ages as you don't need much for each batch.

Yes I could borrow, but as we can not leave the school, to pick up items, its just getting harder and harder.
