geiger counter condition

Hi all,
Can anyone assess my geiger counter. Tube popped one time when teacher was using it, and we have a replacement. Now when we turned on using the new geiger tube, the counter is emitting a burning odor.I contacted an equipment repairer and he said he does not check geiger counter because he doesn't have spare parts. Did someone have same trouble as this?
