Hi everyone
The old CSIS has propylene glycol as orange and yet Risk Assess has it as Blue. That's a huge difference. It does not have any warnings under GHS so probably is ok at a lower code. But so far with any differences between CSIS and Risk Assess I have gone with the higher grading as I am not sure if we would have any legal standing under RiskAssess. What are others doing? There are quite a few chemicals with differences in colour codes.

And the online one is also orange.

To be honest , I think its an error in CSIS .Propylene glycol is FDA approved and is used in food such as Ice-cream

Ethylene Glycol is however very toxic and is used as an anti-freeze in car radiators ....but despite all its hazards , its listed in CCSC as 7-12

I think they got their Glycols mixed up

I have always been told to go by what CSIS says until the new books come out (whenever that may be) as I also have found riskasses is different to CSIS....

Unfortunately you have to go by your employer's directions. Apart from an error that maybe no one has picked up in 20 years, the problem is it is 20 years old and out of date. That's why, most of the time, there is a difference between the two sources. It does concern me that no one in a place of authority in the public school system seems to care that they are allowing students to use chemicals that they should no longer be handling.

There is NO new book, it is now online, do a search on your portal for CSIS. Shellythenewlabby.

Look online for Phillip Crisp who developed the Risk Assess program. You will find that he was very much involved with the CSIS but has obviously branched out to develop a program which is very relevant to lab technicians. I would suggest that the information in Risk Assess is far more up to date than the outdated CSIS that a lot of you are reliant on.

I agree completely, Lyn. Yes, Phillip definitely was involved with the development of CSIS so understands the criteria for the different year group categories. As I see it, Riskassess is an up to date version of CSIS.
