Storage of Dichloromethane

Post by MariaQ »

:w00t: Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows where I should store dichloromethane? I have safe handling and disposal details, but for storage all I can find, is in glass and kept away from light? So should I just put in on the "Toxic" shelf??

Cheers MariaQ

When I worked in a school that had this chemical I stored it in its own lidded container of absorbent material in the locked toxic chemical storage cupboard.

Does anyone actually use this chemical? If you have something that isn't being used and, from what Linotas describes, it is quite toxic, I would consider disposing of it.

 We use it in the prac where the students work out the empirical formula of tin iodide that they have created.
