Risk Assess and labels

Hi Everyone,
Just been to the ASET Conference Sydney, and we were told that hopefully by the beginning of 2016 Risk Assess will be rolling out their own label system.

So for all you, like me use Risk assess --- YEAH!!!!
For all those that do not use Risk Assess, you have another option to Chemwatch labels if you join up.

Wow! Hopefully that will solve issues of consistency and access to labels for molarity of solutions that so hard to find in Chemwatch!!

Yay!! Am struggling with FFX, hope the new one meets our requirements. Do we have to subscribe to Risk Assess. to access the labels?

Yes I believe as of next year they will charge $200/year. Currently it is $160/year plus GST. But as we use it for Risk assessments it is well worth it and having the labels available will be a bonus.

Risk Assess is also moving to GHS next year so labelling sounds great. the problem with ffx is that we don't have full rights to the program therefore we can't use the Credo section where we could have put together our own labels and sds if we can't locate what we want. Also I have found with the msds section you must check the section that tells you what % of the chemical is in the preparation otherwise you msds could be wrong. You also have to watch molecules of water are in the mixture and does that correspond to the chemical we have bought. This can also through out the labels classification

I've had a few "inconsistencies" with Chemwatch SDSs and therefore the labels as well. I now am sourcing my SDSs from the manufacturer where possible, and only resorting to Chemwatch SDSs where the manufacturer's one is not available. This is what Workcover recommend. I'm holding off on re-labelling until I see what RiskAssess offers, using Chemwatch labels for anything I need urgently. I would have liked to have got started on re-labelling sooner!

RiskAssess has moved over to GHS and they look good. One of my teachers did a risk assessment for lead (II) nitrate and it has come up with the 0.03-0.18 M (1-6% wt/wt) as a teacher use only. CSIS still has it as 7-12 years. Has anyone else found anything different since the changeover?

I also noticed that Borax is now 11-12. CSIS says its 7-12.

We don't use Risk Assess.
What I wonder is, when we haven't received the upgraded CSIS or any other information from the Department regarding different classifications, are the Risk Assess user group classifications what will be in the upgraded CSIS or his own classifications.

hi Fibreweb, just follow the CSIS they are working on a upgraded. Until it Is upgraded follow the old one.

Does Phillip Crisp write CSIS? I thought it was a department group that was responsible for this.

Phillip Crisp had a say in the very first CSIS, but not this upgrade. I believe he does not work for D of E any more, only for himself.

Sodium hydroxide solutions have changed on Risk Assess. It says even seniors can't use greater than 1M now. CSIS allowed up to 4M.
