Hi everyone,

My school is looking at purchasing class sets of year 7-10 (Junior) and 11-12 (senior) microscopes.

Any recommendations and or what features would be useful please?

Thanks and Cheers

After years of buying cheaper ones from Serrata/ MTA and having cheap plastic parts that disintegrate when used, specifically the fuse holder, and difficulty with replacement lamps that are built in, I have now been buying Motic, much more expensive but the quality is obvious and much better service for parts. Serrata kept changing models so no consistency in parts for replacement. Cheers MariaQ

Check with the person who services your current microscopes. They have a good idea of quality and if the 'scopes are worthwhile repairing later down the track.

We just bought a set of OPT-B25PE from ISSCOED.They have a 2 for1 deal .They are $300 each .We got 10 for $1500

We intended them to be a new set for the juniors but the Head Teacher was so impressed , she decided that the Seniors should have them instead .
ISSCOED are a funny company to deal with but we have been using them for the last 20 or more years and they always carry spare parts .

EDIT: I see they are now $350 but there is still the 2 for 1 deal .

Hi Bigmac,
Thank you for the feedback.
Can you tell me whether they are any plastic components on it please?

Cheers

Thank you MariaQ.
They are getting a quote ready for me now.
Just have to convince my faculty head to buy quality.

Thanks for the great info.

From what I can tell , the switch , the Iris and the Condenser lens mount are plastic but the rest is metal . Interestingly they are almost as similar construction to our original over 20 year old ones except these new ones are slightly larger and have much better Lenses .

As I mentioned , we intended to get these for the juniors .I am going to upgrade the stage clips to an X-Y mechanism seeing our Seniors will be using them .
