Algal Balls

Hi all,
My teacher wants to do a prac...Investigating photosynthesis using Algal Balls.....my questions are,
has anyone purchased green algae from any suppliers?
I can see algal balls at Southern Biological....has anyone done this prac or a similar one?
Do I just buy the algal balls or can I buy green algae so they can make their own?

We do a similar investigation with pond plants (which I buy from the pet shop) and hydrogen carbonate indicator (which is easy to make). Keeps the cost down!
